What is URLShrink.net

URLShrink.net is a free to use URL shortener. Lots of websites such as news sites, social networking sites, and more usually have very long confusing links that may take a very long time to share with your peers. Usually storing or remembering these websites is very difficult if not possible. URLShrink.net takes your extremely long website link and turns it into a 5 digit code. By typing urlshrink.net/yourcode you will be auto-forwarded (with no delay or advertisement) to a website of your choice.

Custom Aliases

URLShrink.net allows members to create their own custom code to make remembering or sharing their website even easier; this allows people to use a keyword which hints to the nature of the website. When your creating a custom alias, you can use any amount of characters you want, as long as that code doesn't already exist, it's yours, and it's free!

If a URL already exists in the database, you will not be able to create a new alias for it. Each URL in the database can only have 1 alias (randomly created or user defined).

Reverse Lookup

Reverse Lookup is a feature not available on any url shortening website. This feature has never before been offered.

Why is Reverse Lookup important or useful? Well, it's simple really. Some people can use url shrinking websites to mask links to websites that contain malware or spyware. Sometimes those links just aren't safe. With other url shrinking websites you either need to download some sort of add-on for your browser (which tracks your movement, slows your browsing experience, and can even crash) or take a blind risk and click the link. With reverse lookup available right here on the website with no installation or signup required, you or a peer can quickly, safely and easily check to see where a short link is forwarded to.

Member Options

Feature Coming Soon...

As a member, the website will record what short-links you create and track them for you in a secure password-protected enviornment. This is useful for affiliate links, or just to know how many people have actually clicked your link and visited the website. You will have the option to delete links, or even modify them!

Non-members are also restricted to how many short-links they can create in a day, and how many reverse lookups they can perform.

Tag Shrinking

First, what is 'Tag Shrinking'?

Tag shrinking allows you to shrink URL links without having to use the interface on the website. Some browsers, or computers may have some problems with some of the scripting on the website. Whatever the reason may be, users are able to create short links by putting their link directly into the link.

Lets say you wanted to create a short-link for www.google.com (it's already short, but this is just an example) you would type http://urlshrink.net/?shrink=www.google.com.

The question mark (?) indicates to your web browser that you are using a TAG. The word shrinks tells the browser that the tag name is called SHRINK. The equal sign (=) tells the browser the value of the TAG (in this case, www.google.com).

Once URLShrink.net sees that tag, it will know to create a short-link, the same way it knows to create one when you hit the 'Shrink' button.

If you want to include an Alias, you need to add an additional tag to the end of your link; so you would type http://urlshrink.net/?shrink=www.google.com&alias=abc123.

We add the & to tell our web browser that we are now starting a new TAG. That tag's name is ALIAS and its value is abc123. This will tell the website to create a short-link for www.google.com and name it abc123.
